Denmark’s “Ghetto Package” and the intersection of the right to housing and non-discrimination

Thousands of people across Denmark face eviction from their homes under the country’s “Ghetto Package,” which seeks to “eradicate” “ghettos” by 2030.  The State distinguishes “ghettos” from other areas with the same socio-economic factors on the basis that the majority of residents are of what it calls “non-Western background.”

Amnesty International filed a Collective complaint on the housing situation of Roma in Italy

Amnesty International filed a complaint before European Committee of Social Rights in response to the ongoing scandal of the housing situation of Roma in Italy, Amnesty International filed a complaint on 18 March 2019 with the European Committee of Social Rights. The complaint is the first ever to be filed by Amnesty International under the Committee’s collective complaints procedure.

UK Government decided to scrap unjustified evictions pressured by NGOs

Until now, in England and Wales, landlords have been entitled by law to claim their property back and therefore evict their tenants, without providing a reason. These unjustified evictions, with just two months’ notice, are so called Section 21 Evictions as per reference to the Section 21 of the Housing Act of 1988.
