Training: the Right to Housing in International and European Law

Housing Rights Watch participated in a training session on "Housing Rights in International and European Law" on 6 December 2022 in Brussels, organised by the Rassemblement Bruxellois pour le Droit a l'Habitat (RBDH). The participants were mainly workers from Belgian associations.

Maria J. Aldanas, Policy Officer at FEANTSA and Coordinator of Housing Rights Watch and Sarah Coupechoux, European Research Officer at Fondation Abbé Pierre participated as trainers.

Content of the session:
  • The rights based approach to housing and homelessness
  • The different treaties where the right to housing is found (UN, Council of Europe, EU) and how Belgium adheres to these treaties.
  • The courts: for each treaty, a court/committee will analyse the claim.
  • The elements of the right to housing as a human right, with examples.
  • From theory to practice: case studies and group work.
